I've just bought the smallest cottage in Victoria ...

I’m calling it Mackie Cottage. It was built in 1867.

It's old. It's quirky. It's full of character. It needs work. And on 3 July I'll be moving in, surrounded by boxes of books and a growing list of renovation projects.

There will be painting, sigh.

As I've been measuring rooms and deciding which treasured possessions can stay and which must go, I've found myself thinking a lot about what we inherit.

Not just houses.

Stories.

Memories.

Secrets.

The things that are handed down from one generation to the next.

Many years ago, I became fascinated by snippets of stories I had heard about my own family.

Before my father died in 2021, I asked him a question.

Could I use some of our family stories as inspiration for a new series?

He said yes.

In return, I made him a promise.

I would never reveal which parts were fact and which parts were fiction.

That promise remains.

The Yarragon Series is not my family's story, but it grew from fragments of memory, family legends, unanswered questions and the things that echo through generations.

The first book in the Yarragon Series, Honour Thy Father, is released on 9 July.

The official launch is back in Warwick, Qld during the Jumpers & Jazz in July Festival. I have three events there on 23/24 July plus the Artisan markets on 18 July.

Signed paperbacks will be available.

If you'd like to join me on this new journey, I'd love to have you along. Not just the series, but turning Mackie Cottage into a home for myself and my words.

My own story connects and intersects with the new series.

More than I ever thought possible.
